There are many different ways that people can help their local animal rescue. On this page we list several different options to encourage others to get involved in our charity helping the cats.

Volunteer cleaners - can you help by spending one morning a week from 9am to 1pm? We need people to help by cleaning out the cat chalets daily - cleaning out litter trays, refilling trays with fresh litter, providing fresh bedding, fresh drinking water, and cat biscuits.
It is hands on work and very physical, so you will need to be able to lift/carry/bend when cleaning out. Please visit the Sanctuary to look round first, during opening hours 10 - 1pm every day (including weekends and Bank Holidays) for more details or email us. Regrettably we only take volunteers of 18+ years living in Colchester, who must have their own car to get to us, as we are out in the country and not on a regular bus route.

Volunteer Charity Shop assistants - Our Charity Shop is at 17 Eld Lane, Colchester CO1 1LS, tel. Col. 576085. If you would like to help us in the shop any day Monday to Saturday from 10am to 2pm, or from 2pm to 5pm, please email us. You will need to be able to lift/bend/carry items, and the shop is in a four storey building. We can only take volunteers of 18 years and over.

Volunteer fundraisers - can you have a turn out at home and do a stall to raise money for us at local events? Offer to collect from family/friends, neighbours and colleagues, so that you can get items to sell.
Or can you hold a Coffee Morning or Garage Sale at home, or have a stall at a car boot sale?

Volunteers for painting - we have a large site at the Sanctuary and would be pleased to hear from anyone who would like to help with repainting of the wooden cat chalets and cat runs (over 18s only). Please contact us by email or at the Sanctuary.

We cannot survive without enough volunteers to make sure that up to 100 cats that we care for are looked after at the Sanctuary and cleaned out every day including Christmas Day.
Also without enough volunteers helping at the Charity Shop and raising funds on outside events we would not be able to meet our ever increasing vets bills.

Opening hours:-10 - 1pm every day (including weekends and Bank Holidays.)

In Colchester, go north up Harwich Road, turning right at the mini roundabout into Bromley Road and follow the road for about one mile out into the country. We are next door to Blenheim Nurseries garden centre.

From the A12 take the A1232 (Colchester North) turn off. Go down Ipswich Road to the Rovers Tye roundabout and turn left into St John's Rd. Follow this road to the end and turn right at the mini roundabout into Harwich Rd. A hundred metres down Harwich Rd there is a mini roundabout, turn left into Bromley Rd and continue for about one mile as mentioned above.
See the map under "The Sanctuary & Homing a Cat".
